Birnam Wood Clubhouse
A familiar place, seen more clearly.
Originally a lemon packing house, the Birnam Wood clubhouse sits at the base of the Santa Barbara mountains. Morgan worked with BraytonHughes | DLR Group to reimagine the building — respecting its history while positioning it for a broader, more contemporary membership.
The design draws from Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, blending the character of the original structure with a more refined and welcoming interior language. Key spaces — including the entry, living room, dining areas, and locker rooms — were reworked to feel both timeless and relevant.
Material choices and architectural details — barrel vaults, stone flooring, rich wood — reinforce a sense of place, while creating an environment that feels equally comfortable for long-standing members and younger families.
